It's an elevated plain near Bozen, the capital of the South Tyrol in northern Italy. Formerly (until the 17. century) used as the only way south, it is nowadays the summer recreation area for the people in Bozen and around.
Über die Hochebene oberhalb von Bozen führte bis in die Mitte des 17. Jhdts. der einzige Weg Richtung Süden, da das Eisacktal unpassierbar war.
Heute ist der Ritten ein beliebtes Ausflugs- und Erholungsziel für die Bevölkerung rund um Bozen und Touristen aus aller Welt.
